Calfee Design Initiates Repair Service for Damaged Carbon Frames
NOVEMBER 11, 2005 -- LA SELVA BEACH, CA (BRAIN)—Calfee Design is offering a repair service for any brand of carbon frame, the company announced. Because Calfee manufactures their frames in the United States, the company already has facilities, such as a composites shop and paint booth, to repair minor gouges, chain suck and complete fractures. Calfee will not repair forks or other carbon components.
Warranty evaluation in the event of structural failure or crash damage varies dramatically between frame manufacturers. The policy of the large domestic brands like Trek, Specialized and Cannondale is to simply offer a warranty replacement price to the consumer. In the case of Kestrel, a warranty repair frame of unknown lineage is substituted to speed the replacement process. If the frame is of European origin, repairing a frame can take 6 to 12 months.
